About this session

A workforce prediction is not itself a decision. Lily Maissen, joined by Helen Friedman, examines the journey from analytical question and predictive evidence to interpretation, alternatives and implementation. Explore how to distinguish what a model supports from what remains uncertain, and how leaders can take ownership of an informed talent decision.

Learning outcomes

  • Distinguish a prediction from a workforce recommendation.
  • Identify uncertainty that matters to the proposed action.
  • Clarify the owner and evidence needed to implement a talent decision.

This session will explore

  • The connection between an analytical question, predictive evidence and interpretation.
  • What model results support and which uncertainties matter to the decision.
  • Alternatives, implementation choices and human decision ownership.

Context

A prediction does not determine what an organisation should do. Moving from insight to action requires an understanding of uncertainty, available alternatives and who is responsible for the resulting choice.
