About this session
When an emerging role has no ready-made external talent market, how should an organisation define the work and decide who could grow into it? Katerina Perry draws on an EPAM workforce-planning challenge to examine the role, skills adjacency, internal candidate evidence and judgements needed before a move is justified.
Learning outcomes
- Describe an emerging role in terms of work and capability.
- Distinguish a plausible internal candidate from demonstrated readiness.
- Identify evidence and development needed to justify an internal transition.
This session will explore
- Define the work and capabilities required for an emerging role.
- Explore skills adjacency and evidence about potential internal candidates.
- Examine the judgement and development conditions needed before supporting a move.
Context
An emerging role may have no established external talent pool. Organisations then need a credible account of the work, adjacent skills and development required before assuming that an internal move is feasible.
