About this session
Productivity means different things in a revenue-generating unit and a support function. Drawing on her People Analytics work at Corning, Helena Tao explores how people and financial measures can be combined, why a single ratio can mislead and how apparent performance differences should trigger investigation before leaders decide what to change.
Learning outcomes
- Choose a productivity question suited to the work being assessed.
- Identify a limitation in a single-ratio comparison.
- Specify further evidence needed before acting on a performance difference.
This session will explore
- Examine productivity measures across different types of business function.
- Consider how people and financial data can be interpreted together.
- Investigate apparent performance differences before selecting an intervention.
Context
Revenue-generating units and support functions create value differently. A single productivity ratio can obscure those differences and encourage decisions that overlook context, quality or the work being performed.
